Best Forward Deployed Engineer Training Programmes in India (2026), Compared
Two years ago, “Forward Deployed Engineer” barely showed up in job listings. Between January and September 2025 alone, FDE job postings rose 800%, according to an Indeed and Financial Times analysis cited by Salesforce. Today, AWS has committed $1 billion to build an entire FDE organisation, Microsoft launched a $2.5 billion business that embeds 6,000 engineers with customers, and Andreessen Horowitz calls it the hottest job in startups. In India, the role is hiring at AI startups, global capability centres, and the India offices of companies like Palantir, Databricks and Salesforce.
If you are searching for Forward Deployed Engineer training in India right now, you will find institute-backed six-month cohorts from IIT Delhi, a 12-month end-to-end programme from Scaler built around one continuous client engagement, low-cost weekend bootcamps, eight-month live programmes with consulting tracks, 30-hour self-paced certifications, and one-to-one coaching from an ex-Amazon Alexa scientist. Prices range from about $165 for a self-paced exam to Rs 3.9 lakh for a full year of guided client work. Formats range from weekend classes you take alongside a job to 14-hour-a-week immersions.
This page compares the Forward Deployed Engineer training programmes available to an Indian learner in 2026. Not by price alone, and not by which badge looks best on a resume, but by what the learning is actually like: live or recorded, how many contact hours, what you build, and whether a human reviews your work. Below the comparison, you will find six tests you can run on any programme we have listed, and any programme launching after this page was written.
One important thing to know before you read further: no employer requires any of these credentials. None of the Forward Deployed Engineer postings we reviewed named a specific certification. Employers screen on production deployment experience, work you can demonstrate, and judgement in ambiguous client situations. A programme’s real value is that it forces you to build the first two on a deadline. The third mostly comes from doing the job, which is why programmes that simulate a real client engagement are worth a close look.
One note on the acronym: “FDE” also means full disk encryption in cybersecurity and Flag Officer Sea Training in the Indian Navy. This page uses “Forward Deployed Engineer” spelled out throughout.
What Is Forward Deployed Engineer Training, and What Are the Options in India?
Forward Deployed Engineer training programmes teach the customer-facing side of shipping AI systems: client discovery, solution design, deployment into production environments, and production concerns like evaluation, cost and security. They split into five broad types in India today: institute-backed cohorts with IIT affiliation, end-to-end programmes built around a simulated client engagement, independent live courses and bootcamps, self-paced certifications with exams, and one-to-one coaching for interview preparation.
Every programme on this page teaches some version of the same core stack: system design for production AI, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, LLM evaluation, and deployment into real client environments. The differences are in depth, format, whether a human reviews your work, and whether the programme forces you to build things you would not build on your own.
Published durations in 2026 ran from 30 hours to 12 months. Published fees ran from about $165 to Rs 3.9 lakh. One provider publishes no fee at all. The options are genuinely varied, which is both good (something fits your schedule and budget) and dangerous (the wrong choice wastes real money and months of your time).
The best Forward Deployed Engineer training programme in India in 2026 depends on how many hours a week you can commit, whether you need a human reviewing your projects, and what you can afford. The deepest institute-backed option is the IIT Delhi certificate via InterviewBit Varsity (6 months, 145 hours, 5 projects). Scaler’s AI Forward Deployed Engineer Program is built as one 12-month client engagement (197 live sessions, 1:1 FDE mentors, placement assistance). The lowest-cost live option is Krish Naik’s weekend bootcamp (Rs 10,000, 5 months). No employer requires any of them.
Forward Deployed Engineer Training Programmes in India Compared (2026)
Every fee below was read from the provider’s own page in September 2026; Scaler, Krish Naik and Maven were read on 6 October 2026. Re-read before enrolling; these move.
| # | Programme | Provider | Course Type | Format and Cadence | Contact Hours and Projects | Fee | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Advanced Certificate in AI Forward Deployed Engineering | IIT Delhi via InterviewBit Varsity | Institute-backed advanced certificate | 6 months, weekend live online + recorded, optional campus immersion | 145 hrs (76 live, 38 self-paced, 31 capstone); 5 projects (4 mini + 1 final) | Rs 1,65,000 + 18% GST; from Rs 9,897/mo | Working engineer wanting an IIT certificate and deep production-side teaching |
| 2 | AI Forward Deployed Engineer Course & Program | Scaler | End-to-end FDE programme on one simulated client | 12 months, live online, one continuous client engagement, lifelong recording access | 197 live sessions (14 graded assessments, 10 labs, 18 communication classes); a live client platform built across 4 production projects, then a brand-new client delivered end to end and defended at Demo Day | Rs 3.5 to 3.9 lakh; from Rs 9,791/mo, Rs 20,000 upfront | Engineer who wants to come out able to run a real client deployment, with 1:1 FDE mentors and placement assistance |
| 3 | AI Forward Deployed Engineer Bootcamp | Krish Naik | Independent live bootcamp | 5 months, live weekends (Sat and Sun, 8-11 am) | 3-hr live sessions twice a week; 2 capstones | Rs 10,000 incl. GST | A low-cost live introduction to FDE tooling |
| 4 | Forward Deployed AI Engineer Bootcamp | Maven (Meri Nova, Hai Nghiem) | Short international live cohort | 4 weeks, live online | 8-10 hrs/week; 1 project from discovery to a production-ready system | $3,000 | Engineer already shipping code who wants a short sprint |
| 5 | Certified Forward Deployed Engineer | GSDC | Self-paced certification | Self-paced video + some live sessions | 50+ hrs, assignments + capstone, 90-min exam | $400 (list $800) | Structured syllabus cheaply, on your own schedule |
| 6 | Certified Forward Deployed Engineer (CFDE) | ADaSci | Self-paced certification | Self-paced with labs; also a live “Pro Incubator” track | 30 hrs, 7 modules, proctored 60-question exam | $164.99 (INR option offered) | Self-starters wanting a credential on their own timeline |
| 7 | FDE Coaching (guides and 12-week accelerator) | Dr. Sundeep Teki | 1:1 interview coaching | 1:1 coaching, 2-12 weeks | Strategy sessions, mock interviews | $449 to $5,499 (USD) | Senior engineer close to a US frontier-lab interview |
| 8 | PG Certificate in Forward Deployed AI Engineering | IIT Roorkee via Futurense | Institute-backed short certificate | 3 months, 100% live online, weekends, ~10 hrs/week | ~85 hrs; 10+ activities, 15+ artefacts, capstone | Rs 45,000 + 18% GST | Institute-backed route with the lightest weekly load |
| 9 | PGP in FDE and Applied AI Solutions | FDE Academy | Independent PGP with consulting track | 8 months / 32 weeks, live weekday + weekend builds, 2-day Goa retreat | ~14-18 hrs/week; 80 seats | Not published; contact provider | Someone who can commit 15+ hrs/week with consulting-delivery interest |
Row 7 is dollar-priced and aimed at US frontier-lab interview prep. The $5,499 accelerator teaches none of the engineering. If you are an Indian fresher targeting an Indian AI startup, this is not your answer.
What each course type gives you
The course type tells you more about what you will walk away with than the fee does.
- Institute-backed certificates (IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee): an institute name on your resume and a structured syllabus on a weekend cadence that fits a job. IIT Delhi adds five reviewed projects and a panel defence. Neither includes placement assistance.
- End-to-end FDE programme (Scaler): the closest thing to doing the job before you get it. A year of live teaching, one continuous client engagement from discovery call to production scale, 1:1 mentors who are working FDEs, and placement assistance.
- Live bootcamps and short cohorts (Krish Naik, Maven): a fast, lower-cost way to learn the tooling with a live instructor, but lighter on project review, mentoring and career support.
- Independent PGP with a consulting track (FDE Academy): consulting craft taught alongside engineering, at a heavy weekly load and an undisclosed fee.
- Self-paced certifications (GSDC, ADaSci): a cheap, structured syllabus and a badge, but nobody reviews your code or holds you to a deadline.
- 1:1 coaching (Dr. Sundeep Teki): interview strategy for engineers who can already ship AI systems. It does not teach the engineering.

How We Ranked These
We ranked on six things, in this order: depth and length of live teaching, contact hours, how many projects are specified and whether a human reviews them, how closely the programme mirrors a real client engagement, whether a deadline forces you to actually finish, and whether an Indian reader can enrol (timezone, INR payment, open cohort).
This ranks the learning experience, not the credential. If you want a page that argues about which badge impresses a recruiter, that is our certification comparison.
Why IIT Delhi is first. It is the only programme that pairs an IIT certificate with a production-grade syllabus: 145 hours, 76 of them live, and five specified projects defended to an expert panel, on a weekend cadence that fits a job.
Why Scaler is right behind it. Scaler is built on one idea: you learn the FDE job by doing it, end to end, for one client. That means 12 months and 197 live sessions, a single continuous client engagement, and 1:1 mentors who are working FDEs at Databricks, Palantir, EXL and Sarvam AI. It sits second, not first, because the certificate is Scaler’s own rather than an institute’s, and because it asks for a full year and a larger fee.
Two placements may surprise you. IIT Roorkee sits at 8 despite its IIT backing, because 85 hours over 3 months is the lightest institute option, and when we checked in September 2026, its cohort showed as closed with zero seats. A great certificate does not help you if you cannot enrol. FDE Academy sits at 9 because it publishes no fee, names no specific IIT partner, and asks for 14-18 hours a week, which is hard to sustain alongside a job.
If you want the deepest institute-backed production teaching, the Advanced Certificate in AI Forward Deployed Engineering with IIT Delhi leads this list. If you want the closest thing to doing the job before you get it, look at Scaler’s AI Forward Deployed Engineer Program.
The Best Forward Deployed Engineer Training Programmes in India, Reviewed
1. Advanced Certificate in AI Forward Deployed Engineering: IIT Delhi (InterviewBit Varsity)
Format: 6 months, weekend online classes with recorded sessions so it runs alongside a full-time job. Optional campus immersion at IIT Delhi for in-person networking and lab work.
Contact hours: 145 hours total, broken into 76 live hours, 38 self-paced, and 31 capstone and lab time. That is the highest contact-hour count among the institute-backed options by a significant margin.
What you build: Five projects, each shipping a working technical artefact and a customer-facing deliverable. The four mini-capstones escalate in real-world difficulty:
- Mini-capstone 1 (Week 4): Ship your first working AI tool end to end. A deployed tool plus a one-page FDE-style write-up.
- Mini-capstone 2 (Week 10): Production RAG on messy enterprise documents. Full retrieval pipeline, evaluation harness, architecture write-up.
- Mini-capstone 3 (Week 15): Regulated rebuild for a bank or hospital. Architecture, working prototype, and risk register.
- Mini-capstone 4 (Week 17): Security audit of a live LLM app. Full audit report, remediation playbook, governance plan.
- Final capstone: Portfolio-grade deployment you demo to employers and defend to an expert panel.
Syllabus depth: 19 modules across 4 phases. AI foundations for FDEs, production Python, no-code AI prototyping, prompting and LLM control, discovery and problem framing, RAG architecture, agentic systems (LangGraph, CrewAI, MCP), LLM evaluation and observability, fine-tuning (SFT/LoRA), cost/latency/scale management, security and OWASP for LLMs, deployment on Bedrock/Azure OpenAI/Vertex, enterprise integration with CRM/ERP/legacy systems.
Fee (read Sep 2026): Rs 1,65,000 + 18% GST. Starting at Rs 9,897/month via EMI. Rs 1,000 application fee; Rs 15,000 first instalment, balance as one-shot or EMI via NBFC partners. Cohort: 17 Oct 2026 to April 2027. Applications close 15 Oct 2026. Refund: 80% within 15 days excluding tax, none after.
Eligibility: “STEM Graduate B.Tech / BE / BCA / BSc / BA in Maths or Tech Professionals.”
What the course page says, verbatim: “Certification on completion as per institute criteria. No placement or alumni status is implied.” Read that twice. It is one of the most honest lines on any programme page on this SERP.
Best for: a working engineer with a Python base who wants an IIT certificate, weekend cadence that fits a job, and five specified projects rather than one open-ended capstone.
Not for: anyone who cannot yet write and deploy a Python service, anyone who needs to finish this quarter, or anyone who wants placement assistance as part of the package. Entry 2 covers that gap.
2. AI Forward Deployed Engineer Program: Scaler
Training built around doing the actual job. You spend 12 months embedded with one client and take it from a messy first call to a platform running at production scale.
Course type: End-to-end FDE programme combining full-stack engineering, production AI and client-facing consulting.
Format: 12 months, live online, 14 modules including four electives. Next cohort starts October 2026. Lifelong access to recordings and curriculum updates.
Contact hours: 197 live sessions, including 14 graded assessments, 10 hands-on labs and 18 communication classes.
How it works: You are embedded with Meridian Retail, a realistic simulated client with legacy data behind a firewall, PII and PCI constraints, shifting stakeholders and a Black Friday deadline. Client work starts on day one: discovery, PRD-lite, SOW and executive summaries come before production code. Communication is graded through discovery calls, design reviews, executive briefings and incident war rooms.
What you build:
- Project 1: Secure client data platform and legacy ingestion. Schema with row-level security and encryption, federated access to a firewalled on-prem SQL Server, a tested async Python pipeline.
- Project 2: Production order-management backend. FastAPI, OAuth2/OIDC, real-time status over WebSockets, OpenTelemetry tracing, and a dbt/Airflow/Kafka data platform underneath.
- Project 3: Live ops dashboard in React and TypeScript, defended to the end users who rely on it.
- Project 4: Black Friday scale redesign for a 50x traffic surge, with sharding, Kafka and Saga transactions, defended to leadership.
- Capstone: A brand-new client, end to end. Fresh brief under time pressure, full stack plus an AI/agent layer, presented at Demo Day to an industry panel.
The AI depth: Three dedicated AI modules cover production RAG, agents, LangGraph orchestration, MCP and vector search at scale. Evaluation is treated as the job, not an extra: golden sets, retrieval precision, recall and MRR, RAGAS faithfulness, PII guardrails, prompt-injection red-teaming, cost and latency routing, canary rollouts and drift detection. You also face a timed RAG build and a red-team war room on your own shipped agent.
Elective depth for senior engineers: A real AWS production go-live with Terraform (28 sessions), multi-region reliability and disaster recovery, and enterprise security sign-off.
Who teaches it: Scaler co-founder Anshuman Singh (two-time ACM ICPC World Finalist, founding team of Facebook Messenger), Naman Bhalla and Shivank Agarwal. 1:1 mentors are practising FDEs at Databricks, Palantir, EXL, Sarvam AI, Axelerant and ConveGenius.AI, and they coach your discovery calls and exec updates before the graded versions.
Fee (read 6 Oct 2026): Rs 3.5 to 3.9 lakh. From Rs 9,791/month with no-cost EMI and a Rs 20,000 upfront commitment.
Career support: Resume review, mock interviews and placement assistance included, plus access to Scaler’s community of 37,000+ tech professionals.
Eligibility: Built for engineers from 1 to 8+ years of experience: SDEs, full-stack, backend, data and platform engineers, solutions engineers, SDETs, implementation engineers and tech leads.
The certificate: A Scaler completion certificate, backed by a portfolio engagement and capstone that read like work experience. It is not a university or institute certificate.
Best for: an engineer who wants to come out able to run a client deployment, not just describe one, and who values working-FDE mentors and placement support enough to invest a full year.
Not for: anyone who needs an IIT name on the certificate, anyone who cannot commit 12 months, or anyone on a tight budget. Entry 1 is the institute route; entry 3 is the lowest-cost live option.

3. AI Forward Deployed Engineer Bootcamp: Krish Naik
Rs 10,000 including GST. 5 months. Live on Saturdays and Sundays, 8 to 11 am. The current batch started on 4 October 2026.
Curriculum: Python, Linux and async programming; FastAPI, REST and GraphQL; AWS (VPC, IAM, RDS, ECS Fargate), Docker and CI/CD; LLM fundamentals, vector databases, advanced RAG and knowledge graphs; agentic AI with LangGraph; enterprise integrations with Slack, Jira and SQL databases; AI security (OAuth, RBAC, prompt-injection protection) and production observability. It ends in two capstones: OmniGuard (secure enterprise AI integration) and AuditMesh (a multi-agent compliance system).
What is not on the page: No certificate, 1:1 mentoring, communication training or placement support is mentioned.
Best for: a low-cost, live introduction to FDE tooling on a weekend schedule.
Not for: anyone who wants mentor review of their work, client simulation or career support.
4. Forward Deployed AI Engineer Bootcamp: Maven
Verified on the Maven course page on 6 October 2026.
$3,000. 4 weeks, live online, 8-10 hours a week. Next cohort: 16 November to 11 December 2026. Taught by Meri Nova (AI educator) and Hai Nghiem (Senior AI Engineer, founder of AGI Ventures).
How it works: Learners take one project through a full lifecycle: a discovery conversation with a simulated AI customer, a proof of concept, then a production-ready system. Work runs from a shared GitHub repository of prepared scenarios, or you can bring your own problem. Completing the videos, assignments and final project earns a personalised certificate and shareable achievement page.
Best for: an engineer already shipping production code who wants a short, intensive sprint.
Not for: anyone who needs months of mentoring, Indian placement support, IST-friendly scheduling guarantees or rupee pricing.
5-6. The Self-Paced Certifications: GSDC and ADaSci
GSDC (gsdcouncil.org): 50+ hours self-paced video plus some live sessions, assignments and a capstone, a 40-question 90-minute exam at 65% to pass. No prerequisites. $400 (list $800).
ADaSci (adasci.org): 30 hours self-paced across 7 modules, a proctored 60-question exam. $164.99 with an INR option. Also offers a “CFDE Pro” live incubator track with line-by-line GitHub PR reviews, 4 shipped production projects, and weekly live masterclasses.
The credential question: Both GSDC and ADaSci issue their own certifications. Neither is backed by a university or an industry consortium. Our certification comparison covers what that means for employer recognition.
The learning question: Self-paced means nobody reviews your code, nobody pushes you when you skip a week, and nobody forces you to finish. For a role whose core difficulty is judgement under ambiguity, that is the limitation to weigh honestly.
Best for: a reader who already deploys production software and wants a structured syllabus cheaply, on their own schedule.
Not for: anyone who needs external accountability, a cohort to learn with, or project feedback from a human.
7. One-to-One Coaching: Dr. Sundeep Teki
Run by an Oxford-trained neuroscientist with a UCL PhD and prior work as a scientist on Amazon Alexa AI. He has coached 100+ professionals into roles at Anthropic, Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft and Databricks.
The product range runs from a $69 career guide up to a $5,499 accelerator (9 coaching sessions over 12 weeks with mock interviews, portfolio review and negotiation coaching). In between: strategy sessions at $449, interview sprints at $1,499, and intensives at $3,099.
Be straight about the fit and the currency: This is dollar-priced, US-oriented, and it teaches interview strategy rather than engineering fundamentals. It assumes you already know how to ship an AI system.
Best for: a senior engineer with the production base already built who is close to an interview at a US frontier lab.
Not for: an Indian fresher, or anyone who still needs to learn the engineering.
8. PG Certificate in Forward Deployed AI Engineering: IIT Roorkee (via Futurense)
3 months. ~85 learning hours. 100% live online, weekend sessions of 2-3 hours, ~10 hours per week.
Curriculum: Six modules covering FDE mindset and problem structuring, data and pipeline thinking, prompt engineering and LLM workflows, ML foundations, deep learning and NLP, and prototyping, deployment and consulting. 10+ hands-on activities, 15+ portfolio artefacts, a capstone. Directed by Prof. Gaurav Dixit, Associate Professor at IIT Roorkee’s Mehta Family School of Data Science and AI.
Fee: Rs 45,000 + 18% GST, plus Rs 5,000 non-refundable registration adjusted against the total.
Cohort status (Sep 2026): The page showed “Sept, 2026 (Tentative)”, “Application Closed” and 0 seats. Verify on the Futurense page before you plan around this.
Best for: an IIT-backed route with the lightest weekly load, if you are already stretched thin and a cohort is open.
Not for: anyone who needs depth in deployment, security and observability. 85 hours cannot cover evaluation pipelines, LLMOps, enterprise integration and security audits alongside the fundamentals. Depth tracks duration.
9. PGP in FDE and Applied AI Solutions: FDE Academy
Read September 2026: 8 months / 32 weeks. Dual technical-and-consulting track, live weekday sessions plus weekend builds. ~14-18 hours per week, one of the heaviest weekly loads on this list. A two-day in-person retreat in Goa. 80 seats per cohort.
The programme runs a dual track every week: technical execution on one side (Python for production, API integration, database design, cloud architecture, LLM fine-tuning, agentic systems, security and compliance) and consulting delivery on the other (client discovery, stakeholder communication, solution scoping, change management, contract negotiation, trusted-advisor relationships).
If you have never sat across from a client who does not care about your model’s F1 score and only cares whether it reduces their claims-processing time, that consulting track is where you learn to translate. This FDE roadmap explains the dual-muscle skill profile that separates FDEs from standard software engineers.
What is not on the page: The specific IIT partner is not named. The fee is not published. You have to enquire to get either.
Best for: someone who can commit 15+ hours a week and wants consulting delivery alongside the engineering, especially if you are targeting a consultancy like Deloitte or Accenture.
Not for: anyone with a full-time job and a commute, or anyone comparing on price. Ask for the full fee and the IIT partner in writing before you apply.
Six Tests to Run on Any Forward Deployed Engineer Training Programme
The table above will be outdated the day a fee changes or a new programme launches. These six tests will not. They are how you judge any programme we have listed, and any programme we have never heard of.
| # | Test | What to Look For | What a Weak Answer Looks Like |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Does the syllabus reach production, or stop at the demo? | Search the syllabus for six words: evaluation, observability, latency, cost, security, integration. | None of those words appear. A RAG prototype is a weekend project. Running one for a client who depends on it is evaluation pipelines, cost monitoring, security reviews and integration with existing systems. |
| 2 | What do you build, and does anyone read it? | Count the projects. Check whether each is specified (deliverables named) or vague (“a capstone project”). Check whether a human reviews your work. | “A capstone project” with no reviewer, no deliverables and no deadline. An unreviewed capstone is a certificate with extra steps. |
| 3 | What is the weekly load, and can you sustain it? | Find the contact hours and the weekly commitment. Be honest about your calendar, commute and family obligations. | A 14-18 hr/week programme taken alongside a full-time job is the most common way people waste a fee. |
| 4 | What does it promise about jobs? | Find the placement language and read it literally. “Placement assistance” is resume review and mock interviews. “Placement guarantee” is a contract; read the terms. | A projected salary band is neither assistance nor a guarantee. One provider projects roles up to Rs 95L-1.6 Cr. Treat a number like that as marketing, not a promise. |
| 5 | What is the real cost, including GST and everything else? | Find the fee. Add 18% GST where it applies. Add any registration or application fee. Check whether instalments are no-cost EMI or a third-party NBFC loan. Find the refund window. | A provider that publishes no fee and requires an enquiry. Know it before you hand over a phone number. |
| 6 | Is the cohort you are applying to actually open? | Find the cohort start date, the application deadline and the remaining seats. | When we checked in September 2026, one IIT-backed programme showed applications closed and zero seats while its marketing pages were still circulating. |
How the top two do on these tests. IIT Delhi passes test 1 on every keyword, names five projects with a panel defence for test 2, runs on weekends for test 3, and is explicit that no placement is implied for test 4. Scaler also passes test 1 on every keyword and names its graded evaluation stack, specifies four projects plus a Demo Day capstone with 1:1 mentor review for test 2, and includes placement assistance for test 4. For test 3, be honest with yourself: 12 months is a real commitment. For test 5, ask your advisor whether GST applies and get the refund terms in writing before you pay.
The five-minute version: open the syllabus, search for the six production keywords, count the specified projects with named reviewers, and check whether the cohort is accepting applications. That tells you more than any marketing page.
What No Training Programme Can Give You
Every programme on this page teaches you to build and deploy AI systems. None of them can fully replace what happens when a real client’s data is messier than expected, when the deadline moves up by two weeks, when the CTO disagrees with the architecture you spent three days on, or when the system works in staging and falls apart in production.
That is the job. It is why employers care about experience more than credentials. The closest a programme can get is to simulate it, which is exactly why Scaler builds its whole curriculum around one client with shifting stakeholders, a firewall, a live incident drill and a Black Friday deadline.
The free route, without apology: You can learn everything on these syllabi without paying. Cloud vendors publish complete learning paths at no cost; the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate page links to a full free exam-prep plan. Palantir’s certification portal offers learning paths covering Foundry and AIP (login-gated). Scaler publishes free guides on what a forward deployed engineer is, FDE skills and FDE jobs. Every provider syllabus on this page is public and usable as a self-directed reading list.
The concrete first build you should attempt on your own: A retrieval-augmented system over documents you do not own (someone else’s messy PDFs, not your own notes), deployed where a stranger can actually use it (not a localhost demo), with an evaluation harness that measures accuracy and a cost log that tracks what you spent. If you can ship that, write a one-page architecture decision document for it, and explain your trade-offs to another human being, you have the foundation of what an FDE does. If you need a structured path, an AI engineer roadmap covers the progression from fundamentals to production-level work.
For context on the role itself: Illinois Tech’s guide to the Forward Deployed Engineer is written by a university rather than a vendor. It covers the history, the Palantir origin story, and why AWS and Microsoft are investing billions around it.
For salary context in India specifically: Glassdoor India reports an average of about Rs 14.2 lakh from roughly 44 salary submissions (checked October 2026). TeamLease Digital CEO Neeti Sharma cited Rs 9-12 lakh at entry level and Rs 25-40 lakh at mid-level, with around 230 active FDE openings in India (Inc42, 23 May 2026). A fuller breakdown sits in this FDE salary, roles and responsibilities guide. Weigh programme fees against those numbers, not against US frontier-lab compensation.
Ready to Choose?
If you ran test one and decided that institute-backed production depth is what you are buying, the Advanced Certificate in AI Forward Deployed Engineering with IIT Delhi is built for exactly that: six months, live online with recorded sessions, five specified projects escalating from a first AI tool to a security audit of a live LLM app. Applications for the October 2026 cohort close on 15 October 2026. Check the IIT Delhi course page
If what you want is to do the actual job before you get it, discovery calls, a living production platform, RAG and agents with real evaluation, an incident war room and an architecture you defend to leadership, that is the Scaler AI Forward Deployed Engineer Program. Twelve months, 197 live sessions, 1:1 FDE mentors and placement assistance. The next cohort starts in October 2026. Run the six tests on it yourself before you apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Programmes that teach the customer-facing side of shipping AI systems: client discovery, solution design, deployment into production, and production concerns like evaluation, cost and security. Formats range from 30-hour self-paced certifications to eight-month live cohorts. The common thread is that they make you build and deploy something, which is the thing that actually matters in an interview.
It depends on three things: how many hours a week you can commit, what you can afford, and whether you need a human reviewing your work. Six-month institute-backed cohorts go deepest. Three-month certificates are lighter and cheaper. Self-paced certifications suit engineers who already deploy production software and want structure without a schedule. The comparison table above lays out the trade-offs.
No. No employer requires a certification, and none of the postings we reviewed named one. Training earns its fee when it forces you to build deployed projects on a deadline you would not otherwise meet. If you are disciplined enough to self-direct, the free route works. The job opportunities in AI are growing fast enough that demonstrated skill matters more than any single credential.
Published fees in September 2026 ranged from Rs 9,900 for a 30-hour Salesforce-track course to Rs 1,65,000 plus 18% GST for a six-month IIT Delhi programme. Most live cohorts sit between Rs 45,000 and Rs 90,000. Two providers (FDE Academy and CodeKerdos for some queries) publish no fee; you have to enquire.
Usually, yes. The core difficulty of the Forward Deployed Engineer role is making judgements under ambiguity, with incomplete information, while a client watches. That kind of skill needs feedback from another human on your actual work. Self-paced is a good fit if you already ship production software regularly and want a structured syllabus cheaply.
Published durations in 2026 range from 30 hours to eight months. Depth tracks duration closely. An 85-hour programme cannot cover evaluation, observability, cost control, security and enterprise integration alongside the fundamentals. Be honest about what you are paying for: a 30-hour course gives you an orientation; a six-month cohort gives you a portfolio.
Yes. Every syllabus on this page is public. Cloud vendors publish free learning paths. Palantir’s learning platform is free. The concrete build described above (RAG system,
deployed, with evaluation and cost logging) is achievable with free resources. A paid programme buys structure, project feedback from a human, and a deadline. Whether that is worth the fee depends on whether you would actually finish without one.
If you ran test one and decided that production depth is what you are buying, the Advanced Certificate in AI Forward Deployed Engineering with IIT Delhi is built for exactly that: six months, live online with recorded sessions, five specified projects escalating from a first AI tool to a security audit of a live LLM app, and modules covering RAG architecture, agentic systems, LLM evaluation and observability, security, and production deployment. Run the other five tests on it yourself before you apply; the syllabus, fee and cohort dates are on the course page.
